Kings warning after Weymouth
reach top 10
By Adam Summers
Tuesday 3rd January 2012
BRENDON King has told his side they must kick on over the
next few weeks if they are to realise their potential this
season in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier.
Following a profitable Christmas period, which saw his in-form
Terras claim seven points from a possible nine, the determined
boss told Echosport: If we had been offered seven points
beforehand we would have snapped that persons hand off
but we cannot afford to rest on our laurels now we
have to kick on and keep pushing up the table.
St Albans were one of the best teams we have faced and
the fact we beat them New Years Eve and followed it
up yesterday with a victory over AFC Totton, who are up there
competing for the title, is a massive morale boost.
In fact, our record against the top sides at home has
been fantastic but now it is about building on that and turning
it into something special.
The game against the Stags attracted a crowd of 901 to the
Bob Lucas Stadium and it was Sam Malsom that grabbed the headlines
with a fine hat-trick in a 3-1 victory.
King added: Totton are a good side going forward but
we felt we could hurt them at the back and that is exactly
what we did.
We closed down well and did not give them any time and
the only disappointing thing was the way we conceded right
at the end.
I was delighted for Sam because that is exactly what
he needed.
We felt his pace would cause them problems and I thought
he looked a lot sharper than he has done over the last couple
of weeks.
The way he took his third goal was superb but to be
fair the whole side did well.
We looked solid throughout and in many ways it was quite
comfortable.
King also praised the influence of new-signing Alex Jeannin
at the back.
He said: Alex has come in the last two games and shown
all his experience.
He is a great leader and he has helped us become a
lot more organised by pulling people in and making sure we
keep our shape.
Sam Poole is benefitting from it too so I am very happy
indeed with the way he has settled in.
The Terras next home game will see them entertain Blue
Square Premier outfit Alfreton Town in the second round of
the FA Trophy on January 14.
