King keen to keep hold of wanted
duo Reed and Malsom

STEPHEN Reed and Sam Malsom are both attracting interest
from other clubs but Weymouth boss Brendon King is confident
he can keep hold of the dynamic duo.
A seven-day approach has been put in for Reed, who is currently
on non-contract terms, while a strong enquiry has been made
for Malsom, whose current contract runs out at the end of
the season.
The Terras are remaining tight-lipped over the identity of
the potential suitors but there is no doubt that King wants
the pair to stay.
He told Echosport: I do not want to lose either player
as we want to try and keep the bulk of the squad together.
However, Reedy is only on non-contract terms at the
moment which means he is entitled to speak to any club that
puts in an enquiry for him after seven days.
I have spoken to him about it and as far as I am concerned
he does not want to leave.
After a lot of moves over the years he is finally enjoying
his football again and feels settled, and there is no doubt
he has a big part to play here.
When he plays well, the team tends to do well and I
am confident he will not be going anywhere.
As for Sam, he is under contract so if anyone wants
to speak to him they would have to submit an offer.
He has done really well too since he came here. He
burst on to the scene when he first arrived and then after
a little quiet spell he bounced back with a hat-trick against
AFC Totton.
Anyone with his pace and quality is bound to attract
interest, particularly at this time of year when teams are
looking to kick on, but we dont want to lose these types
of players and will be doing all we can to make sure that
does not happen.
The Terras have been widely criticised for their recent displays,
which have seen them concede 13 goals in three successive
defeats.
King believes his men are more than capable of arresting
that dip in form but he also knows tough decisions may have
to made, particularly with the weekly cost of the squad still
being over budget.
King added: People enquire about the availability of
players all the time and it is difficult when those become
official but it is vitally important we try and turn this
season back around.
We have done it once and I am confident we can do it
again and it is all part of the learning process for a squad
that is still relatively inexperienced.
Having said that though, no player is bigger than the
club and sometimes difficult decisions have to be made.
They may not always be popular and sometimes you get
them right and other times you get them wrong, but that is
just football and at the end of the day all we can continue
to do is what we think is right for WFC.
Meanwhile, George Rolls has confirmed the club is hoping
to hold a shareholders meeting next month.
An AGM was held in December to approve the accounts for 2009/10
but those in attendance unanimously voted for the process
to be adjourned to the provisional date of February 1 to enable
the club more time to provide them with the necessary figures.
Rolls, who did not attend the initial meeting, said: It
is something we have got to get sorted but we have had a lot
of other things to take care of too just recently.
We have had to pay out a four-figure sum to cover the
cost of the break-in, and of course, getting all the necessary
work carried out to clean up the mess and to make sure it
does not happen again has obviously been our main priority.
The club is under volunteers and these things take
time but we are hopeful of scheduling a meeting for some time
next month.
