Strike partners may miss out for Terras

WEYMOUTH Reserves could be without the services of both Mike Rousell and Sam Charles for tomorrow’s visit to Wincanton Town (3pm).

Former Dorchester Town marksman Charles is on holiday while his strike partner, who netted a brace against Holt United last Saturday, is supposed to be attending a coaching course.

Boss Brendon King revealed that Rousell was trying to make himself available and that even if the duo miss out, there are plenty of options open to him as cover.

Speaking to Echosport, King said: “Taking two top goal-scorers out of the side would obviously not be ideal, but we are lucky in the fact that we have players who can operate in various positions.

“Hopefully Mike will be with us but if he is not then we will have to manage without him. This is the sort of situation when having versatile players comes in very handy.”

On the plus side, midfielders Ben Reiffer and John Litherland are expected to be passed fit for the Wincanton showdown, which will pit two teams lying second and third in the table against each other.

Weymouth have won five straight matches in the Magna Dorset Premier League and are only a couple of points behind Wincanton, despite having played two games fewer.

And King, who was dissatisfied with his side’s first-half performance against Holt, believes tomorrow’s heavyweight clash at Moor Lane has “the hallmarks of being a decent game”.

He added: “It will be a challenge up there. Wincanton have started well and scored a few goals. From what I have heard, they are pretty good going forward.

“It has got the hallmarks of being a decent game. The pitch should be okay at this time of year, so it’s a good time to go up there and play them.

“We didn’t start too well against Holt last week and maybe the problem was the lads were a little complacent, thinking they could just turn up and Holt would roll over.

“I have reminded them that they need to win their personal battles. We keep banging on about improving individually and collectively, and by and large the guys are doing that.

“We want to win every game we play but the most important thing is to prepare the players for if and when they are called up to the first team.”
