Rousell was on verge of Terras' first team

THE ankle injury sustained by Terras’ striker Mike Rousell on Saturday is not as bad as first feared after an X-ray showed no break.

However, Weymouth reserve team boss Brendon King has admitted the setback “could not have come at a worse time” for the 23-year-old, who was on the verge of a call up to the first-team squad.

Rousell was rushed to hospital in the closing stages of the second-string’s 2-1 victory at Wincanton Town in the Magna Dorset Premier League following a heavy fall after competing for a high ball.

King said: “At first look, we feared the worst but he had an X-ray on his ankle after the game and thankfully it showed no break.

“However, it is still badly swollen and it will not be until that goes down that we will be able to fully assess just how long he is likely to be out for.

“It looks like possible ligament damage and he will be going back to have further X-rays later this week, as well as coming into the club for treatment.”

King went on to add: “This could not have come at a worse time for Mike because Ian Hutchinson had spoken to me about taking him to Swindon Supermarine with the first team on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, Mike was unavailable for that game due to a coaching course in Yeovil, which did not finish until 12.30pm, but I know Ian had him in his plans for this coming Saturday against Chesham as well.

“So it a real shame for all parties concerned really but I am sure Mike will bounce back from it.”

Rousell is the reserves’ leading scorer with 10 goals in just six appearances but it is his “all-round game” that has really impressed.

King said: “Mike has been playing really well. He is a natural goalscorer but his all-round game is getting stronger as well.

“He always gives 110 per cent and works his socks off, and is a real nuisance for opposing defenders. He has also netted around 25 goals at this standard for the past three seasons, so he is keen to make the step up and that is what he has come down here for.

“To be honest, we still have not seen the best of him yet. He had a knee ligament injury in pre-season and because of that has not been 100 per cent sharp, so there is still plenty more to come.

“Hopefully, he will be back in action again soon but he certainly will not be rushed. It is a long season and we will have to make sure he is absolutely right before he can return.”
