Pitt-stop for Courtney

COURTNEY Pitt is hoping his stay at the Bob Lucas Stadium
will have a positive effect on his future, as well as the
fortunes of the Terras.
Since his release from Cambridge United at the end of June,
the 28-year-old has been forced to make the tough decision
to revert to semi-professional Football after failing to win
a full-time contract suitable enough to make ends meet.
Blue Square Bet Premier side Wrexham did offer the ex-Portsmouth
star a package after a successful trial in the summer but
Pitt had to turn it down and last week opted to join Weymouth
on non-contract terms while he takes his coaching badges and
looks into other career opportunities.
He told Echosport: Being out of contract at the moment
is a difficult situation to be in because money is tight everywhere.
And it is not just a case of finding a club. It is about getting
a deal somewhere that you are able to live off.
Football is a job for me. It is what pays the bills
and that is why I turned down Wrexham in the summer. I had
a good pre-season there but they offered me something I could
not live off so I was unable to take it.
That is why I felt my best option was to go part-time,
so I could get into something else. It is all very new for
me because all I have known is football since I left school
but I am looking forward to it and have already started doing
my coaching badges, which will hopefully give me a career
once my playing days are over.
Pitt lives in Wolverhampton and although he cannot commit
to a long-term future at the Terras, he is determined to do
all he can to help the club climb out of its current predicament,
which sees the team lying nine points adrift of safety at
the bottom of the table.
He added: I want to help the team, and hopefully entertain
the fans with some good football. It is true that I want to
play as high as possible but at the moment I am here and willing
to play.
I will train on a Thurs-day and play on a Saturday
and although it is a long trip down from Wolver-hampton every
week, it is something I am happy to do.
Pitt and fellow new boy Rob Wolleaston made their debuts
for the Terras in last Saturdays 3-0 defeat against
table-toppers Camb-ridge City and despite the result made
an instant impact.
Pitt said: I thought the boys applied themselves well
and we created a lot of chances but unfortunately we were
unable to take them. Had we taken one, it would have got us
back into the game.
To play top of the league and outplay them like we
did should now give us the belief to pick up points in future
games and get out of our current situation.
Pitt played with Wolleast-on at Cambridge United and he admits
the playmakers decision to join him at Weymouth did
have a big impact on his desire to head to the South coast.
He added: I have known Rob for a long time. He is a
very good player and it surprises me that he cannot get a
full-time club. But as I said that is the situation in football
at the moment.
I did speak with Rob when Weymouth showed an interest
and we both decided to come down and play together. People
said we made a huge difference last Saturday and with Robs
quality and what I can offer, hopefully we can get the side
moving up the table.
Pitt and Wolleaston are both expected to be included in the
Terras squad that travels to Swindon Super-marine in
the second qualifying round of the FA Cup this Saturday.
