King not impressed

DESPITE maintaining their unbeaten start to the season and
moving up to second in the Magna Dorset Premier League, Terras
manager Brendon King was disappointed with his sides
display in the 4-2 win over Merley Cobham Sports at the Bob
Lucas Stadium.
With first-team boss Ian Hutchin-son watching in the stand,
the game was a chance for Kings young starlets to stake
a claim but the fluent passing game that has quickly become
their trademark seemed to desert them as Sports gave them
a tough examination.
In fact, the visitors kept the ball much better than Weymouth
in the first period but it was the home side that forged ahead
through a wonderful strike from Tom Richardson from the corner
of the box following good work by Lewis Ironside and Sam Charles.
After the break, Charles then turned from provider to scorer
by burying the second from six yards after some neat link-up
play between John Litherland, Matt Oldring and Mike Rousell,
before the latter added a third from the spot following a
foul on Richardson.
However, there was no fluency to the home sides display
and moments later a poor pass by Sam Poole caught Richardson
on his heels and allowed an opponent to intercept and let
fly with a stunning strike from 25 yards that gave keeper
Nick Carroll no chance.
Rousell then completed his brace with a clinical finish after
more good work from Litherland before substitute Ryan McKechnie
lost possession, enabling Merley to break and grab a second
consolation through another fantastic effort from 20 yards
that flew in off a post.
King, whose side now sit one point behind table-toppers Hamworthy
Recreation, having taken 13 points from their first five games,
said: We did not play very well. We set ourselves high
standards and we fell below them, and the players were disappointed
as well.
We just did not trust each other enough in possession
and did not do things quick enough. For some reason we started
going a bit more direct and the two goals we conceded were
sloppy from our point of view.
They were both good strikes but the way we conceded
possession to hand them the opportunities to shoot was disappointing.
We have told the lads what we were not happy with and
as long as they take that on board and learn from it then
that is the important thing.
Terras: Carroll, Oldring, Whyton, Poole, Ironside, Taylor
(McKechnie 55), Litherland, Nicholls (Reiffer 70), Richardson,
Charles (White 75), Rousell. Subs not used: Weeks, Mitchell.
n The Terras scheduled trip to Poole Borough tomorrow
has been postponed due to a water leak above the changing
rooms at Turlin Moor, which has caused the Borough of Poole
council to decree them unsafe on the grounds of health and
safety.
The contest could not be switched to the Bob Lucas Stadium
as the pitch has just been fertilised.
