Hutchinson hurt by cup capitulation
By Adam Summers

IAN Hutchinson refused to hide his disappointment after Saturday’s pitiful FA Cup second qualifying round exit at Swindon Supermarine, admitting that “perhaps changes have got to be made” to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Weymouth were a mere shadow of the side that put on such an encouraging display against Zamaretto Premier Division leaders Cambridge City the previous week, and Hutchinson was forthright in his analysis of the 3-0 defeat, which was the Terras’ fourth in their last five games.

He said: “The previous week, the better team lost 3-0 but on Saturday the better team won there is no doubt about that.

“Supermarine wanted it more than we did and it showed, and to be honest both Andy Mason and I are very hurt by the manner in which we lost the game.

“Perhaps the adulation the players got for the way they played against Cambridge made them think it would be a walkover but it is not just about playing pretty football. It is about desire, attitude and will to win, and I am disappointed to say that, as a collective, we lacked all of those things.

“I have always been one to back my players to the hilt but when they do not give 110 per cent for that shirt it is hurtful and a big concern.”

Not even recent signings Cour-tney Pitt and Rob Wolleaston could inspire the Terras, who were second best at the Webbs Wood Stadium throughout much of the contest.

Hutchinson added: “It is worrying times when you see how we are, and perhaps changes have got to be made.

“If we have to kick our way out of trouble at the bottom of the Zamar-etto Premier Division then that is what we will do. And if it takes 11 dogs of war then so be it.

“Performances like that hurt me. People paid a lot of money to come and support us and some of the players have got to start realising that and realising just what it all means.

“Not only was that a chance to progress but it was also an opportunity to earn a bit of extra money for the club and I apologise to anyone who went. “Sometimes in life you need a kick up the backside. We all have our ups and downs but the key is to always come back stronger after these experiences, and that is what I will be expecting from each and every player over the next few weeks.”
