Hutch has a cup dream

THE romance of the FA Cup has got Weymouth boss Ian Hutchinson
dreaming of a place in the first round proper after his side
won 2-1 at Taunton Town on Saturday.
The victory puts the Terras in the hat for the second qualifying
round and also nets them a guaranteed £3,000 but Hutchinson
is hoping the success is only his sides first small
step in this years competition.
He said: I am just delighted that we are in the draw
for the next round. Saturday was not about the performance,
it was just about getting through and the fact that the victory
has given us an extra £3,000 in the bank will no doubt
make the chairman and the board of directors very happy.
This is an historic competition and we told the lads
after the game that our Wembley is the first round proper.
We still have a long way to go to reach that stage but that
is how they should look at it.
Striker Warren Byerley was the hero at Wordsworth Road with
a brace but the Peacocks ensured it was not an entirely comfortable
afternoon for the Terras by reducing the deficit through substitute
Craig Veal with just six minutes remaining.
Hutchinson added: I said to the players before the
game that if we go out there and be professional and do the
basics properly then we should not have any problems and that
is exactly what we did.
The pitch was awful and it made it hard to get the
ball down so it was not a classic. Instead it was an afternoon
where we had to put in good areas, and the second goal just
after half-time ended up proving crucial after they got one
back towards the end.
Every game is a learning curve and what we need to
take from this is the importance of killing teams off. We
looked pretty comfortable throughout but we did not get the
third despite having a couple of chances and in the end it
was bit more nervy than it should have been.
Commenting on Byerleys performance, Hutchinson said:
Warren is a strong lad. He is street-wise and does a
great job for us, and as a unit we were pretty solid. Now,
we can all look forward to the draw.
The Terras will next be in action on Saturday when they take
on top-of-the-table Cambridge City at the Bob Lucas Stadium
in the Zamaretto Premier Division.
Hutchinsons men were due to clash with Brackley Town
at home on Thursday but the game has been postponed due to
the Saints now having to play a replay against Leamington
tomorrow after their first qualifying round tie ended 2-2
at the New Windmill Ground.
