Terras’ boss hopes to secure loan deal
By Adam Summers

BRENDON King is hoping to land defender Tim Stephenson on loan from Npower League One side AFC Bournemouth.

The second-year professional, who endured an injury-hit campaign last season, turned out for Weymouth in Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Wimborne Town and the Terras’ boss was impressed with what he saw.

Despite claiming just last week that the club would not be making any more signings this summer, King told Echosport: “Tim played at centre-back and looked very accomplished so hopefully we can get something sorted over the next couple of days when I will speak to Lee Bradbury (Cherries’ boss) about the possibility of taking him on loan.

“It was another good workout on Saturday. We started slowly and got better as the game went on but more importantly it was more minutes under our belts as we start edging closer to Saturday’s league opener against Cambridge City.”

Rob Wolleaston put the Terras ahead at Cuthbury with a stunning left-footed strike from the edge of the box before Nick Jordan protected the lead by saving Matt Kemble’s spot-kick, following a dubious handball decision.

And even when Wimborne did eventually level through Gary Funnell, the visitors showed great resolve to hit back almost immediately through Warren Byerley, who netted from close range just before the break after Ben Gerring had climbed highest at a corner.

The Terras then made several substitutions at the interval and went on to control the majority of the second period despite failing to add to their tally.

King said: “A couple of the boys came off with knocks but nothing serious enough to put them in danger of missing Saturday and overall I was happy with both our fitness and sharpness, which at the end of the day is what these friendlies are all about.”

The Terras will host a Glenn Hoddle Academy team tomorrow night before finishing their pre-season campaign with another home clash against Bideford on Wednesday (both 7.45pm).

Ex-England boss Hoddle will be joined at the Bob Lucas Stadium by his coaching staff Graham Rix, Dave Beasant, Nigel Spackman and George Foster.

Admission for tomorrow’s encounter is £5 for adults and concessions, and free for children, while entry to Wednesday’s game will be £1 for all.
