Tiryaki treble as Reed sees red
By Nigel Biddlecombe
MUSTAFA Tiryakis hat-trick condemned Weymouth to their
28th Blue Square South defeat of the season.
And added to the beleaguered Terras woes midfielder
Stephen Reed was sent-off five minutes from the end at West
Leigh Park.
The visitors made two changes from Saturdays defeat
to Weston-super-Mare with Scott Dixon and Tom Richardson coming
in for John Lamb and Carl Foster with the latter dropping
to the bench.
Havant played with the advantage of the slope in the first
half and put Weymouth under pressure from the start, winning
two corners in quick succession, but failing to capitalise
on them.
The home side took an eighth minute lead, after confusion
between Cameron Mawer and keeper Michael Neish led to the
latter picking up a back pass. Former Dorchester Town star
Ian Selley took a short kick allowing Tiryaki to blast his
shot past the wall and into the net.
Weymouths first venture into opposition territory came
on 14 minutes when Shane Evans collected Simon Radcliffes
throw and turned a defender before getting his shot away,
but Nathan Ashmore saved.
Within a minute Evans latched on to a through ball and made
several yards before firing in a shot which Ashmore did well
to turn away..
When Ashmore collected Reeds free-kick his quick throw
released Jake Newton, whose through ball found Bobby Hopkin-son,
but the Havant man blasted his shot over the bar.
Tiryaki did well to rob Mawer on the edge of the penalty
area before finding Hopkinson with room to spare, but again
he was well off target.
Neish made up for his error when he dived to his left to
brilliantly save Selleys 30-yard free-kick and followed
this up with another smart stop from Tiryaki.
The home side were making all the running, but their finishing
let them down Williams shot hopelessly wide with the
goal at his mercy before his control let him down and allowed
Neish to save at his feet, before blazing another chance over
the crossbar.
Another former Magpie Wes Fogden had a great chance to add
a second for the Hawks when Tiryaki picked him out with a
cross, but he decided to use the hand of god and
earnt himself a booking.
A minute before the interval Havant grabbed their second
goal and, again, it came from an error by Neish.
Radcliffe guided the ball back to the youngster, but he seemed
to take his eye of the ball kicking it straight at Williams,
Tiryaki being on hand to roll the ball into the empty net.
Within 30 seconds of the restart Weymouth pulled a goal back
when Reeds free-kick was superbly met by Evans, his
header leaving Ashmore stranded.
This set back fired the home side into action, but they continued
to waste their opportunities Bobby Hopkinson ran 25
yards before firing over the bar and Neish was on hand to
save Tiryakis cross-shot.
There was mayhem in the Terras penalty area in the
61st minute when Williams ran clear only for Neish to save,
the loose ball fell to Tiryaki who was stopped by a brave
tackle from Ollie Tribe leaving the youngster prone
on the floor.
The situation was resolved when Neish held on to Fogdens
shot.
As this was happening Wey-mouth were without Reed who had
left the field for treatment to a head injury and was unable
to persuade the officials to allow him back into the fray.
Weymouth won their first corner, in the 65th minute, Reed
took the kick and his cross was half cleared, falling to Dixon,
but his effort flew high over the woodwork.
Although Steve Walker drove over the Weymouth crossbar, it
was the visitors who were now making the running.
Eubio Do-Rosario got on the end of Tribes throw-in,
but his attempted bicycle kick was well off target, before
Jamie Frampton found space to head another Reed free-kick
narrowly over the goal.
At the other end Neish continued to thwart the Hampshire
side, saving bravely at the feet of Williams.
Tiryaki completed his hat-trick and sealed the game for Havant
in the 81st minute. Williams flicked a free-kick from McDonald
into his path allowing the striker to let fly with an unstoppable
volley from 25 yards.
Weymouth refused to throw in the towel, but suffered a late
blow.
Jamie McGuinness found Reed with a long crossfield ball,
but the Terras midfielders run was stop-ped when
referee Mark Pottage spotted his assistants flag.
After consultation the officials decided that Reed had been
off the pitch and re-entered to collect McGuinness pass.
Despite protests from the travelling players and officials
Reed was shown a second yellow card, followed by a red.
With 10 men it was Weymouth who had the last chance when
Dixons free-kick cleared the home defence, but Evans
at full stretch was unable to make contact.
